Industrial Informatics, Inc. is pleased to announce the startup
of a trichloroethylene (TCE) groundwater plume remediation
project in north central Mississippi. Industrial Informatics was
chosen by the responsible environmental engineering company to
provide the automation and controls technology for the system.
Using our Conferax™ rev. 3.1 OPC communications library and
Avizi™ rev. 1.7 alarm autodialer interface the system provides
completely “lights out” day to day operations of the system. In
addition, the web based interface allows remote operation and
monitoring of the system from the environmental engineering
firm’s home and satellite offices.

The system, as originally conceived by the
environmental group, was a simple pumping and fan control panel
with a hardware outbound telephone autodialer. However, at our
suggestion, the system was expanded to provide secure but
complete monitoring and control via both the web or telephone.
Our Avizi™ autodialer package provides complete inbound
and outbound call management facilities, allowing the facility
operator to specify alarm conditions to monitor, and provides
call progression from a configurable call list. Once a call
recipient has been located by Avizi™ the person may command the
system to report status of any measured variable or take
appropriate control actions via the touchtone interface.
Additionally, an operator may call in to the system to monitor
as well.
The basic system consists of 30 shallow, medium, and deep wells
and 4 soil vapor extraction lines. All indications and functions
of the SCADA are available via a secure web interface at the
environmental engineering firm’s corporate office, reducing the
need for site visits to a minimum. And all log files are readily
transferable from the remote site over the wire for analysis or
reporting.
If your plant is faced with a
remediation task we would urge you ask your environmental
engineering group to contact us about devising an automation
system for your remediation equipment. If
you are an
environmental engineering group that wants to focus on your core
environmental skill and leave the details about motor amps, pump
sizes, etc. to a fabricator, please contact us.
